Noon Nerd News Update - June 9th, 2014

Happy 30th!

June 8th, 1984 was a helluva a day at the movies. Both Gremlins, and Ghostbusters were released in theaters 30 years ago yesterday! As we reported last Friday, Sony Pictures will be re-releasing Ghostbusters in the theaters this Labor Day! Maybe we can get a petition going to get Warner Bros. to do the same with the greatest Christmas movie made and make it a double feature on Labor Day! You heard it here first remember!

Some numbers from 1984:
Ghostbusters made 13.6 million its opening weekend and spent 5 weeks at the number one spot.

Gremlins made 12.5 million on its opening weekend and ended up being the 4th highest grossing film of the year.

Night Nerd News Update - June 6th, 2014

He's No Good To Me On Film

Josh Trank (Chronicle) has been announced as a director of a yet to be named Star Wars stand alone movie set to be released in 2016. No info on who or what the movie will be about, but the odds on favorite is Boba Fett. I don't know about you, but could Boba Fett carry an entire feature film? Leave comments, or get us on facebook!

They're Here To Save The World...30 Years Later

In order to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Ghostbusters, Sony Pictures will re-release the film to a select 700 theaters on Labor Day weekend. I don't know about you but they've got my $10.50. Sony has also launched a new website on the film and it will update us all on where we can catch the masterpiece when it comes time. Check it out by clicking here!

WTF Comic Of The Week - June 6th, 2014

Frank Meet Archie

In the inaugural installment of WTF Comic Of The Week, we have Archie Meets The Punisher. For those unfamiliar with the characters, The Punisher is a violent anti-hero vigilante who uses explicit language and interesting ways of dispatching his would be targets, and Archie is a clean-cut, clumsy, well-mannered high school student whose biggest dilemma is who should he take to the dance, Betty or Veronica? For some reason in 1994, Marvel and Archie Comics thought this was a match made in heaven. Without getting to in depth with the story, a mob boss/drug dealer (who happens to look like Archie) comes to Riverdale and is pursued by The Punisher. The Punisher is ordered to not kill his target, per his usual fashion, and of course mistakes Archie for the smut-peddler. Before you think, man I'm going to pick this up and make a mint one day. It's 20 years old, and you can still get copies up for around $10.

Maybe next time, Frank can dispatch Jughead and Archie, and abscond with both Betty and Veronica. That'd be a book I'd buy.

Noon Nerd News Update - June 4th, 2014

Does The Bat Really Need The Cat?

After her strong performance in, Edge of Tomorrow, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Emily Blunt being offered more comic book/action roles. Well, DC must be thinking the same thing, as a Spanish language website is claiming the 31-year old actress is being considered for a role in the upcoming, Batman V. Superman movie. Sure, a fledgling site says someone might get a part, let's not put too much stock in it right? Well this site also speculated at Ben Affleck playing Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonderwoman and we know how those turned out. If cast, who might the Brit play? Catwoman, Harley Quinn, maybe Lana Lang? What do you think? Leave comments below or let us know on facebook!

Thanos, Rising?

Marvel Studios has recently announced that the Avatar Of Death himself, Thanos, will be in Guardians Of The Galaxy (out August 1st). He will be voiced by Josh Brolin and will appear mainly as a hologram commanding his troops against the Guardians. Fans have been waiting for a Thanos appearance ever since he appeared in the after credits scene in The Avengers. Something tells me, another after credits scene in Guardians will set up some Thanos tie in to the next Avengers movie, or some aspect of the current Marvel Universe. Need a refresher on Thanos, check out the clip from the Avengers below, or by clicking here.

Look, Up In The Sky, It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's The Whistleblower!

That's right kids, according to CBS Washington, Edward Snowden, famed whistleblower, now living in Russia will be the focus of a new comic book written by former DC writer Valerie D'Orazio. D'Orazio, says the fact that Snowden was a normal geeky guy before turning international chess piece is where the idea came from. The book will center on his life before leaking government secrets. The book, being published by Bluewater Productions has no official release date as of yet. Read the entire article here.

Robocop Deception

Well it appears we were somewhat duped by news outlets. No Robocop statue was unveiled yesterday in Detroit, however the future of law enforcement did throw out the first pitch at the Tigers game. My advice, don't quit your day job. To be fair, to see if he is, as the video claims, the most iconic crime fighter in Detroit's history, we need to get Axel Foley to throw out a pitch and compare. Video below or here courtesy of The Oakland Press.

Night Nerd News Update - June 3rd, 2014

No, No, No...

Ever since the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, there have been rumors flying around about a reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise. Early thoughts on who could take over the role were Bradley Cooper. However, news coming out today point to (sigh) Robert Pattinson taking over the whip and hat. Thoughts?
